Donald E. Schrunk, 69, of Fort Myers Beach, Florida passed away on May 16, 2017. He is the son of Hilda E. and John L. Schrunk, and was originally born in San Diego, California on February 18, 1948.

Nothing in this world brought greater joy to Donald’s life than his beloved family. He is survived by his wife, Terrace “Terri” Schrunk of Fort Myers Beach; two daughters – Terri (John) Erler of Homosassa, and Cherish Joy Key of Cape Coral; seven grandchildren – Brandon Erler, Kyle Erler, Kayla Erler, Elli Simmon, Terry Chow, Autumn Key and Dennis Key Jr.; mother-in-law – Betty Ridling; two brothers – John Schrunk and Wayne Schrunk; two sisters – Virginia McManus, and Hilda Younker and numerous nieces.

Donald was a long time resident of Fort Myers Beach where he lived with his loving wife, Terri. Donald had a deeply-rooted love of the sea and a true passion for boating and fishing, so it would only make sense for the two of them to live at the beach. He enjoyed exploring the waters, both above and below sea level so he also became a certified master scuba diver. For the last 10 years, he held the position of a licensed sea captain on a commercial charter fishing boat. The very first boat he ever had the opportunity to be Skipper of was the “Sea Commander”.

When Donald wasn’t in the boat, out on the water, or spending time with his loving family, he still managed to find time to spend on his unique hobby of raising pigeons. Throughout his years, he was able to live a very, wholesome life that most have only sought-after. We will always remember Donald as a devoted husband, a beloved father, an adored grandfather, charming son (in-law), and a renowned sea captain. His family and friends will cherish the many memories they share with him, and will truly miss him.

Gallaher American Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with his arrangements. At this time, no services have been set. We send our deepest condolences to his family.
