Geraldine Marie Bodven, 70, of Saint James City, Florida peacefully passed away on June 7, 2017. She was originally born to her beloved parents on June 13, 1946 in Ohio. Geraldine, better known to her family and friends as “Geri”, was known for being unbelievably generous, unimaginably kind and had a heart made from the purest of golds. Those close to her felt it was a privilege to have known her for she was selfless, loving and she never put her own wants before anyone else’s.

Geraldine chose to turn that love into a lifelong commitment and began her journey into the field of medicine. It takes someone with a strong-will, a gentle hand and a sincere heart to successfully make it in the world of nursing. Geraldine possessed all of those characteristics, and then some, so to say she was successful was a bit of an understatement.

But, an outstanding personality can only get you so far in life, especially in her line of work. You also have to receive an extensive amount of schooling, with her incredible intelligence, that’s exactly what she got. In 2015, she graduated with a PhD-Doctor of Nursing Practice, from University of South Alabama – Graduate School. In December 2016, she graduated from University of South Alabama – College of Nursing with a Subspecialty in Palliative Care.

Once in the field, she realized she not only had a love for caring those who could not care for themselves, but she took a specific interest in those terminally ill, or in the later/end stages of their life. She then started her journey into the world of hospice nursing.
She was employed by Hope Hospice, of Cape Coral, Florida, where she passionately worked up until the very end of her life. Not only was she considered to be one of the very best hospice nurses in this area, she was actually one of the very first nurses employed at the Hospice House, located in Cape Coral.

Little did she know, the day she decided to pursue the career of nursing, that her decision would not only change her life, but would change others’ lives for the better.
Although she dedicated her life to caring for others, she had other loves and interests. Geri devoted what spare time she hadn’t already given to her family, loved ones and the ones she cared for, to her endearing friends and to the dogs which she truly adored.

Many people strive to become even half the person that Geri was, most never even come close, but not a single person even compares to the kind of person we all remember her to be. We will always remember the way she touched all the lives of those she came across. She will always be missed, never be forgotten, and our memories of her will forever be cherished.

Gallaher American Family Funeral Home has been given the privilege of caring for and planning any and all of her services. Our deepest condolences and most sincere sympathies go out to her loved ones during this difficult time.
