Anthony “Tony” Painter, 69, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away on July 21, 2026, in Fort Myers.

Born on September 4, 1956, in Canton, Illinois, Tony was the son of Albert Painter and Betty (Myer) Painter, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister, Cindy Painter of Dover, Delaware, and his brother, Andy Painter of Dover, Delaware.

Although he made Florida his home for the past 40 years, Tony never lost his love for his hometown of Canton. He cherished the friendships he made growing up and remained in close contact with many of his classmates throughout the years. Canton always held a special place in his heart.

Tony spent many years working as a retail manager, where he was known for his strong work ethic, dedication, and ability to connect with people.

He is also survived by his son, Doug (Toni) Painter of Canton, Illinois; his daughter, Natalie (Garett) Guzman of Las Vegas, Nevada; his cherished grandchildren, Alex (Kalen) Painter, Lydia Painter, and Amelia Painter, all of Canton, Illinois, and Devin (Sadie) Lewis of Johnston City, Illinois; his beloved great-grandchildren, Emerson, Madeleine, Charlotte, Alivia, and Ella; and his lifelong friend of 37 years, Jerry Jackson, whose friendship meant so much to him.

Tony will be remembered for his love of family, his loyalty to lifelong friends, and the pride he took in staying connected to the community where he was raised. Though he spent the last four decades in Florida, Canton was always home in his heart. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Canton Elks Lodge in Canton, Illinois. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor Tony’s life, share memories, and celebrate the many lives he touched.

A private burial of his ashes will take place at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.
