Christopher Anthony Whelan, 60, of Cape Coral, died Nov. 8, 2025 at Hope Hospice surrounded by family after a long battle with cancer.
He was born Jan. 12, 1965 on Long Island, New York. He attended Deer Park High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy following graduation in 1983. He followed family to Cape Coral in 1990.
Chris was a talented mechanic and served as an usher at St. Andrew Catholic Church. He enjoyed riding his bike and loved his pets, and, especially, spending time with family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Joan Whelan; his brother-in-law, Greg Bellomy, and his nephew, James Paul Leavens.
He is survived by his girlfriend, Kathie Thompson; brothers Tommy (Stacey) Whelan, Mark Whelan (Carla), and Ken (Valarie) Whelan; sisters Stephanie Whelan and Louise Bellomy; and numerous nephews, nieces and great nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at Gallaher American Family Funeral Home in Fort Myers.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Cape Coral.
