Elinor “Patti” Mitchell left this earthly plane in Ft. Myers, FL on January 24th, 2019 at the age of 92.
Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1926, Elinor was a trail blazer in every sense of the word; she raised two sons in an era when women required a man’s co-signature to purchase a car loan or open a bank account. Despite those societal rules of the time, Elinor succeeded, not just in life and motherhood, but in her 45-year career as a Registered Nurse. She took pride in her work and in helping others. Even during her retirement from nursing, and up to a few weeks before her passing, she was sharing her vast and much sought-after knowledge of natural remedies at the health store where she worked for the last 25 years.
Age was simply a number to Elinor. She adjusted to every decade and came into the 21st century armed with an iPad, a Mac, engaging in online banking, emails, social media, and playing a mean game of computer solitaire.
Elinor will be remembered by all who knew and loved her for her larger than life personality, her kind and loving ways, her spunk and sharp mind (and wit), and her great (classic Boston) sense of humor – As she would say; “a classy broad” through and through.
Regardless of the decade or stage in her life, she continued to grow and learn, refusing to slow down and accept she was “not 50 anymore!” She challenged herself physically, mentally and spiritually all the way to the end.
Elinor leaves us with beautiful memories, a bar set high, and an example for all of us to strive to be stellar human beings all the way to the conclusion of our journey.
Elinor is survived by her two beloved sons Douglas and Bob, her grandchildren Ryan, Lauren, Emily, Colin, and Nikki, and her great-grandson Blake.
