James Michael Shelton

James "Mike" Shelton of Cape Coral, FL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb 6, 2019.  His untimely death occurred as a result of post-operative complications from a routine hernia surgery. Mike was loved by many, especially those he considered "family" and will be greatly missed by all.  Mike is survived by his nephews Matthew Shelton and Rich Shelton of Cape Coral. Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Marjolaine and his parents William Hugh Shelton and Anne Lee (Murray) Shelton.

Mike was born on March 24, 1962 in Arlington Hospital in Arlington VA.  He lived in Alexandria, VA at the time of his birth.  Mike joined the military right after high school and served proudly in the United States Air Force from 1981-1989.  Mike achieved the rank of Sargent in 1985 and was lovingly referred to as "Taz" by his fellow Airmen.  Mike was a member of the elite 462 Weapons Battle Group.  Mike trained at Lowry Air Force Base and served in Holland, Germany and Italy.

Mike left us way too soon and has left a void for many, especially those in the fishing community.  Mike loved fishing, soccer, talking about fishing, teaching others about fishing and especially being on the water.

Mike was a plain and simple guy; nothing complicated and certainly nothing fancy was required. We're respecting his wishes by keeping his memorials just that. Mike's Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, Feb 17 at the shop.  It's where Mike was most comfortable; casual, nothing fancy and surrounded by good friends and people who loved him and loved fishing. As per Mike's wishes, his ashes will be spread at his favorite fishing spot on his birthday, March 24.
