Kathe Treida

Kathe Treida, 99, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away on July 12th, 2026 at Cape Coral Rehabilitation long term care facility.

She was born September 15, 1926 in Koln, Germany, the daughter of Andreas and Carola Spurck. After WWII, she relocated to the United States and resided in Savannah Georgia, where she met the love of her life, George Treida, who was stationed in Fort Bragg. After going on a double date with each other’s friend, they decided they were a better match and quickly fell in love and were married on March 26th, 1955 in Lafayette, Indiana. They were married for 66 years, until George succumbed to leukemia in 2021. They did everything together and were a beautiful couple!

Surviving her are her two sons, David (Fort Myers, FL), (granddaughter Jaime) and Eric (Elmhurst, IL), wife Lisa, son Michael and daughter Julia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrea and Carola, brother Hans Spurck and sister in law Ellie (Germany), sister in laws, Maxine Brandt (husband Jim), Mildred (Mickey) Callahan, (husband Tom), brother in law Harold Treida (wife Bette) of Lafayette, IN and granddaughter Sarah Treida.

Kathe had such a positive demeanor and smile that would light up a room and persevered through so many challenges in life.

• During the siren raids in Germany during WWII, as a result of the bombs, she was usually the last one to get to the bunker because she was off playing with her girlfriends.
• She was often defending her younger brother Hans, against other boys, whenever he was being picked on.
• In 2022 as a result of hurricane Ian, they had to evacuate all the tenants from her retirement home over to the Atlantic side of Florida. Upon getting off the bus she fell head first on the pavement, with only stitches needed. No concussion or broken bones and Kathe’s biggest concern was her appearance! She always took pride in her appearance.

• Although her education in Germany only took her to 8th grade, she learned English on her own and was successful in finding employment at various clothing and optical stores. She also functioned as a Teacher’s aide for a number of years working with middle school special needs children.
• While retired in Florida, she worked for over 15 years serving tastings at the Costco up until her early 90’s and often times was number one in products sold! She loved interacting with people.
• Kathe and George did everything together and while she was so reliant on him for everything, she survived his death of five years and was able to get involved with all the activities at Calusa Harbour, a place she loved so much!

We will miss her terribly and will focus on the fond memories and that warm smile that always made you smile and feel better.
