Maritza Colon, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2025, at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers, Florida, after a brief illness. She was 64 years old.

Born on April 1, 1960, Maritza dedicated her life to her family. She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Melvin Cartagena, who was her constant companion and the love of her life. Together, they built a family founded on love, resilience, and unwavering support.

Maritza was a devoted mother to eight children: Eladio Colon, Jessica Alkassar, Jennifer Cartagena, Jacklyn Cartagena, David Cartagena, and Daniel Cartagena. She was predeceased by her cherished children Maritza Lozada and Leonardo Lozada, whose memories remained forever in her heart.

Her legacy continues through her 26 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy and pride to her life. Maritza cherished every moment spent with her family, creating lasting memories filled with laughter, love, and warmth.

Maritza will be remembered for her kind heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering love for her family. She had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcomed and loved, and her presence brightened the lives of all who knew her. Her strength and resilience in the face of adversity were an inspiration to her family and friends.

A memorial service to celebrate Maritza's life will be held to honor her memory and the impact she had on so many lives at Gallaher American Funeral Home located at 2701 Cleveland Ave, Fort Myers Florida 33901 on March 8th 11-1pm The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Lung Cancer in Maritza's name, as a testament to her caring and generous nature.

Maritza will be deeply missed but her spirit will live on through the countless lives she touched. May she rest in eternal peace.
