Martha Louise “Magi” Thompson

November 28, 1946 – April 8, 2026

A boy and a girl met at the summer place of Chautauqua in August 1963, beginning a lifelong journey together. Martha Louise Jones, daughter of Paul N. Jones and Jane Berg Jones, was born in Jamestown, NY, and lived in nearby Lakewood until graduating from Southwestern Central School in 1965. That same year, exactly two years after they first met, she married Charles R. Thompson at the First Methodist Church in Jamestown.

While their life journey took them through many cities and states, Martha’s heart truly belonged to Coconut Grove, Florida, where they spent many of their happiest years. In later years, they moved to the Fort Myers area with their boys.

Martha (known affectionately as "Magi") spent her life expressing a God-given artistic talent through many mediums, including oil, watercolor, stipple (fine dots creating detail), and digital art. Her work was featured in numerous international art exhibitions. Deeply committed to the world around her, she promoted the "Save the Manatee Federation" and frequently used her art to capture and celebrate wildlife.

Beyond her own creations, Magi was dedicated to photo reconstruction and restoration. She possessed a unique gift for creating beautiful portraits from damaged photographs. In a true testament to her character, she would often rebuild and restore photos damaged by major storms or weather catastrophes at no charge.

Magi passed away on April 8, 2026, at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers, departing for a most glorious place. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul N. and Jane Berg Jones; her sister, Cecilia “Cindy” Jones and Cindy’s son, Chris Jones; her brother, Capt. J. Peter Jones; both her Jones and Berg grandparents; and her beloved dog, Aribella.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Charles R. Thompson (Fort Myers, FL), and their family: • Son Ian (Lisa) Thompson (Lakeland, FL), their three children (Aimee, Troy, and Kayla), 11 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. • Son Aaron (Jennifer) Thompson (Lehigh Acres, FL) and their family: grandson Lane (Molly) and great-grandchild Henry; and grandson Matthew (Logan) and great-grandchildren Autumn and Matt Jr. • Niece Ellen Codere (Ann Arbor, MI) and her two sons. • Cousin Siri Berg Lawson (Russell, PA). • Sister-in-law Donna Young Jones (Jamestown, NY and Altamonte Springs, FL) and the children of Donna and the late Capt. J. Peter Jones: Peter C. Jones (and his two daughters) and Melissa Jones (and her two daughters and one son).

Magi’s legacy of kindness lives on in the many lives she touched. All of us who knew her will deeply miss her kind heart, her warm hugs, and her beautiful spirit.
