Michael Eugene McCarthy, 60, of North Fort Myers, Florida, passed away on August 1, 2026.
Born on March 13, 1966, in Fort Myers, Michael was a lifelong Southwest Florida resident. He was a graduate of North Fort Myers High School and spent much of his career working as a manager. He was known for his strong work ethic, easygoing nature, and the genuine friendships he built throughout his life.
Michael found joy in the simple things. He was an avid collector with a passion for finding and preserving unique treasures, had a lifelong love of music, and was a devoted Buffalo Bills fan who rarely missed the opportunity to cheer on his favorite team. Those who knew him will remember his sense of humor, his individuality, and his willingness to always be himself. One of his favorite sayings was, "I am who I am. I make no apologies to anyone." It was a phrase that reflected the authenticity and confidence with which he lived his life.
Above all, Michael cherished his family. He shared 31 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Kimberly DeHond-McCarthy. He was a loving father to his son, Aidan Joshua McCarthy, and a devoted son to his mother, Elisabeth Schaaf. He is also survived by his brother, Dan McCarthy, and his sisters, Kim Hayden and Cindy Vogel, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Michael's life on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Gallaher American Family Funeral Home, 2701 Cleveland Avenue, Suite 100, Fort Myers, Florida. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the Celebration of Life service at 5:00 p.m.
Michael's memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. Though he will be deeply missed, the laughter, memories, and love he shared will continue to bring comfort to those he leaves behind.
