Milagros Concepcion
Martinez
September 15, 1937 – April 23, 2026
Milagros Concepcion Martinez, affectionately known as Millie, age 88, was reunited with the Lord and her beloved husband, Carlos “Charlie” Martinez, who preceded her in death in October 2025. She peacefully passed away on the evening of April 23 at her home in Fort Myers, Florida, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in New York and raised in Humacao, Puerto Rico, Millie later returned to New York, where she attended James Monroe High School in the Bronx, NY. It was there that she met the love of her life, Charlie and the two were married for 68 beautiful years. Their marriage was a true example of devotion, partnership, and enduring love.
Millie was a natural with numbers (a human calculator if you will) and earned a living through bookkeeping and financial work for Cella’s Cherries, Miller Industries, Lum’s, Pizzeria Uno and later, private law firms. Even after retirement, her spirit of service never slowed. She generously volunteered her time and talents with the PTA, Dolphin Dolls, football games, the Miami Senior High Band Parents Association, and as treasurer for both the Pioneer Community Association and the Villas Community Association.
She was a feisty woman who could hold her own in any debate, right up until her final days. Her financial planner once described her to her daughter as intelligent, funny and spicy which perfectly captured her personality. Millie had a remarkable way of connecting with people, whether it was the mailman, the painter, her financial planner, or anyone else who crossed her path. She had a heart of gold and loved everyone she met. She was truly one of a kind.
Millie loved her family deeply and always enjoyed a full house of conversations and laughter. She was happiest when she was cooking for everyone and making sure there was always room at the table for one more person, whether family, a friend of the family, or anyone who needed love and kindness. Her home was a place of warmth, hospitality, and unconditional care.
She was also an avid reader throughout her life. She began with her Time magazine each month and later embraced technology by managing her bank accounts online every morning after breakfast, keeping everything up to date in Quicken. As she transitioned to reading news online, she could often be found on her tablet each morning, staying informed on the headlines. This made her a fascinating conversationalist who could debate politics, religion, the real estate market, Tesla, and even the global chip shortage.
Millie also loved to travel, embrace adventure, and experience life to the fullest. She enjoyed gardening and spending time outdoors with her husband, working on the yard and taking great pride in their home. She was intelligent, self-taught, curious, and endlessly engaging.
She is survived by her three children, Millie, Carlos, and Cristina; her grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild on the way.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
The family extends heartfelt thanks for the overwhelming love and support shown by friends, family, former colleagues, and the neighbors in the Villas community, who have gone above and beyond in their kindness and care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an organization that held a special place in Millie’s heart.
