Robert McFiggans, a Fort Myers Beach resident and retired Pitney Bowes Engineer, died March 31st in his home in Fort Myers Beach, Florida. He was 90 years of age. Mr. McFiggans was born February 10, 1935 in Nyack, New York. He was the son of the late Alexander and Helen B. McFiggans, and was a graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology. He served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force from 1957-1960, before joining the Pitney Bowes company as an engineer. During his 32 years in the Pitney Bowes Engineering department, he was awarded 24 US patents as well as a large number of foreign patents in a variety of fields. He was a contributor to the development of the 'Postage by Phone' system, the electronic postage meter program, and other notable technical advances. At the time of his retirement, he held the title of 'Pitney Bowes Fellow’. He was a life member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Mr. McFiggans is survived by his two cousins Barbara Manicatide and Dr. Susan Miletta, his nephew David Noeypatimanond, nieces Jennifer and Marisa Noeypatimanond, and their children. He was predeceased by his sister, Jeanne Noeypatimanond. His family and friends remember him fondly for his kindness, quick sense of humor and many funny stories, love of Fort Myers Beach, and lifelong devotion to reading and learning.
