Susan A Phaneuf

August 17, 1949 — December 18, 2019

Fort Myers

Susan Ann Phaneuf, 70 of Fort Myers, FL passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Signature Healthcare - College Park.  Formerly of Baltimore, MD and Pittsburg, NH, she moved to Lee Plantation in Fort Myers in 2006.

Susan was born August 17, 1949 in Lowell, Massachusetts, the only child of Edward J. Reynolds and Mary F. (Coyle) Reynolds.  She married her husband, Edward J. Phaneuf on July 22, 1977 and took up residence in Nashua, NH until moving to Maryland in 1997.

While living in Nashua, Susan, who carried a Bachelor of Science Degree from Lowell State College and a Master of Science Degree in Biology from Rivier University held various professional positions.  She taught Biology and Chemistry at Milford High School for a few years. Sue then moved to industry, managing quality control testing for various companies including Stride Rite Shoes and Rockport. She retired from outside work to become a homemaker when her husband went to work in Maryland in 1997.

Susan was fascinated by English history, particularly the Tudor period.  While in Maryland, this fascination led her to a profound interest in the history of her ancestors and the ancestors of family members and friends.  She loved researching and laying out the family trees of anyone who would ask her and became the editor of the newsletter of a genealogy group that she joined.  Also, for a period before her illness and death, she was the editor of her local community newsletter, the Lee Plantation Neighborhood News.

She also had a deep and abiding love of plants and animals.  Until her recent illness, she still cared for plants that she had when she first met her husband forty-four years before.  She constantly had one or more pets since she was a child. She had fish aquariums, multiple dogs, and cats in addition to a love for feeding feral cats, foxes, ducks, and other varieties of birds.

In addition to her husband of 42 years, her survivors include her daughter Holly Drew, a step-daughter, Lisa Bourrie, two granddaughters, Tiffany Winter and Samantha Bourrie, and one great granddaughter, Liberty Winter.

Her ashes will be joined with those of her husband at his passing and be kept at a place special to both of them.  There will be a special service for her in her local community sometime after the holiday season.
