Thomas R. Whitteaker, 86, of Cape Coral, Florida peacefully passed away on August 23, 2017. He was born in New Jersey on August 12, 1931. Tom was a loving, family man who enjoyed spending as much time as he could get with his children and grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. His family and many friends always have and always will love him, just as much as he did them.
Whitteaker served his New Jersey community for over 30 years while working as an insurance adjuster, before retiring here in Southwest Florida. One of his favorite shows to watch was Jeopardy, and he stayed up to date with all the current events. Tom earned himself bragging rights for having read the Encyclopedia all the way from A - Z so, naturally, he wore a crown as a master of crossword puzzles.
He kept himself busy and stayed social while participating as a member of organizations such as American Legion, Moose Lodge and the Eagles, of Cape Coral.
Among all the notable things Mr. Whitteaker has done in his life, one stands out more than the rest. He protected his country as a member of the United States Navy. The sacrifices he made, the many risks he took, and his courageous service will never be forgotten. We will always remember him as the proud veteran he truly was, and we will be forever grateful for his brave service.
Thomas is survived by his children - Suzanne M. Fox (San Diego, CA), Thomas F. Whitteaker (Sunbury, PA), David A. Whitteaker (Cape Coral, FL), Joseph R. Whitteaker (Cape Coral, FL) and Anthony M. Whitteaker (Jacksonville, NJ); his grandchildren - Jeremy Reid, Lori Whitteaker and Jessica Whitteaker; his brother - John W. Whitteaker; and his sister - Carol Devlin.
Gallaher American Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with his arrangements. We send our deepest condolences to his loved ones during this difficult time.
