Virginia Mainieri

September 16, 1933 — July 10, 2018

Mainieri, Virginia (Wall) was born on September 16, 1933. Two years later Joseph Wall (the brother she adored her entire life) joined the family. Having to call Uncle Joe to share the news when his sister died on July 10, 2018 brought a flood of tears before the first number was dialed.

She married young, had her three children young, and was widowed young. A few years before she died she would share with me multiple times how she missed her husband more and more in her later years. Unfortunately, his absence just kept getting harder and harder rather than easier for her. Upon her passing she wanted no memorial service, no bells, no whistles. Her only request was to be quietly laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery next to her devoted husband, Dominic P. Mainieri Colonel USAF.

Virginia 'Ginny' Mainieri played a mean game of mahjong. Bridge... not so much but she even gave that a whirl. For somebody that did not like to cook she sure could create a delicious meal. She used to joke and say upon her passing that the first words my father will say to her won't be "Ginny, I missed you so much", but rather, "Ginny, what's for dinner?"

She loved family, friendship, mystery novels, British TV, a good cup of tea, and she had a solid crush on Joe Scarborough.

Lastly, she taught her children, grandchildren, extended family and friends everything we needed to know, except how to live without her...

Donations may be made in her memory to Honor Flight: www.honorflight.org.

Graveside services will be held 9am, October 3, 2018 in Arlington National Cemetery.
