North Fort Myers, FL – Cheryl Kay Gowan, 76, of Avon, IN passed away Saturday, January 29th, 2022. She was surrounded by family and friends who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives giving to others as she did daily. The Lebanon, Indiana native is the daughter of the late Thelma and Vester Wheat. Cheryl was a caring, selfless, compassionate, wife, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Cheryl was a Valedictorian graduate of Lebanon Senior High School, class of 1964. She met her husband in high school and reconnected at a high school reunion by means of a “raincheck”. She worked as a Medical Illustrator and Secretary for Indiana University School of Medicine for 33 years. She spent her time traveling between homes with her husband Harry in Indiana, Georgia, and Florida. She enjoyed art and shared her talent to create many gifts and decorations for various people and events. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Society in Indiana, Georgia and Florida and participated in the Garden Club in Georgia. She was a devoted Christian and her faith shined through in all aspects of her life. With a generous heart she offered kindness, time, and talents to others. Cheryl will be remembered most for her loving, loyal, graceful demeanor and creativity. Cheryl instilled in us her faith and unconditional love and will be deeply missed.
She is preceded in death by her younger sister Debbie Sparks; daughter Stephanie Mcllwain; son John Childress; and son Randall Gowan.
She is survived by her adoring husband; Harry Gowan; older sister Janet and Bill Tyner; son Danny Gowan; daughter Candi Thiel; daughter in laws Linda Gowan and Colleen Childress; beloved nieces; proud grandmother of 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; and many cherished extended family members and friends.
Celebration of life will be held in both Florida and Indiana. The Florida date is Wednesday February 23rd @ 1pm at the Old Bridge Village Clubhouse, N Ft Myers, FL. The Indiana date will be Saturday May 21st @ 10 am at Crossroads Church in Avon, IN.
