Donald Gorsky Obituary

Donald Frank Gorsky, “Don”, beloved husband, father, and grandpa, passed away at Lee Health Park in Ft. Myers, FL early Saturday morning on October 23, 2021 with his family by his side and speaking lovingly over him. Don had endured a valiant battle with cancer, with a positive attitude, a bright outlook, and a smile on his face. He was 64 years old. Don was born on June 28, 1957, a son of the late Frank Gorsky and Nancy (Smith) Hayhurst of Colden, NY. Don grew up in West Falls. NY and graduated from East Aurora High School with the class of 1977. While in school, Don was an athlete playing football and baseball. He married his High School sweetheart Elizabeth “Betsy” Weeks on August 9, 1980. Soon after, the couple moved to West Seneca, NY where they made their home and raised their family. Don’s favorite family vacations were spent in Florida at Disney World with his wife, children and beloved granddaughter. He was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills football team, and he enjoyed hunting with his father and brother Rich.  Don was an entrepreneur and was the sole proprietor of D and J Enterprises, where for thirty years he provided sales and service of used appliances to the residents of Buffalo and surrounding towns from his shop on Abbott Road. Don was well known to be a generous business man who helped the poor, and countless others with fair prices, expert and knowledgeable repair services, and an abundance of good will donations through the years to many in his community who had little or nothing to trade for his services. Don retired and then moved to Florida in 2017. He will be sadly missed but always remembered with love, by his family and many friends who knew him throughout his lifetime. His loss will be mourned by his wife Betsy of West Falls, NY; his mother, Nancy Hayhurst of Colden, NY; his children, Faith Gorsky and her long term partner, Daniel Dellorso of St. Petersburgh, FL, Erika Cruz and her husband Tom Lucerini of Vernon, CT, Don Gorsky of West Seneca, NY; granddaughter, Autumn Rose Cruz, of Holland, NY and her long term partner, Ben Pincoski; son-in-law, Mike Safarini of Alexandria VA; brother, James Gorsky of Colden, NY; several step siblings and numerous extended family and friends. In keeping with his generosity to families in the Buffalo area, it is requested that donations in honor of his memory be made to benefit a scholarship fund for vocational education programs to the less fortunate, via the Buffalo City Mission, www.buffalocitymission.org , so that his legacy of helping people in practical ways can be perpetuated.  Thank you, Don. We all learned integrity, compassion and kindness from you.  A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced.
