Most live their entire life only having one dad. Some are blessed with that same dad, being the most amazing roll model in that child’s life.
Me… I was one of the lucky ones, blessed with two of those amazing dads. The one who raised me and the one who saved me. You were the most extraordinary human I ever met. Strong, courageous, witty and most of all loving.
Oh boy was it awkward when him and mom got together because my entire life, I’ve called him “Uncle Johnie”. It wasn’t until mom and pops got together and one night, we’re all out to dinner, mom and Johnie are kissing and I call him “Uncle” and then I call my mom “mom”.. the look on the waitress face is something I’ll never forget, like we were some inbred family from another state… he became “pops” after that night haha.
He never judged me for my mistakes or choices, only loved me, even though you can assure I heard a stern lecture shortly afterwards.
He would always call me “his daughter”, “his trooper”, and “one of his favorites”, not caring who was around that could hear it. Something he probably didn’t know, something I wish I’d voiced more of… he was my favorite too.
Thank you Pops! Thank you for loving me wholeheartedly without judgment. I’ll forever miss you in this lifetime but I’m looking forward to the day where I see you again. I love you
